SErpentine Galleries LONDON
In London’s Kensington Gardens, the Serpentine Galleries display contemporary art in two adjacent locations.
The south gallery is in a former tea pavilion with temporary summer pavilions and the north gallery in a former gunpowder shed. Zaha Hadid Architects designed an addition with a restaurant. The existing solid brick structure is complemented by the light, transparent tensile addition with curvilinear forms. Five interior columns support the high points of the roof. A supporting beam runs along the existing building with linear glazing. The kitchen island is the only fixed element inside.
