KIMBELL MUSEUM

The Kimbell Art Museum was designed by Louis Kahn and was completed in 1972. Five vaulted galleries are planned in 3 wings.

Sixteen parallel vaults are each 100 feet long, 20 feet wide and 20 feet high. A garden portico is located on the west side for the entrance. Service spaces are located on a lower level along with an additional gallery.

Each vault has a slot along its apex for natural light with curved metal screens to filter the sunlight. Mechanical duct work is located in the space between the vaults. Three courtyards are located between the galleries.

In addition to the museum cafe, you should try Maestro Tacos nearby. Be sure to visit this classic work of architecture in Fort Worth.
