Hollyhock House

Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Hollyhock House is located on Olive Hill in Los Angeles.

It was designed for Aline Barnsdall and completed in 1921. The house was intended to be part of a larger arts complex. Rudolph Schindler, Richard Neutra and Lloyd Wright were also involved in the design. The rooms look on to a central courtyard as well as out to views of the city beyond. Hollow clay tiles and wood framing is covered with stucco and cast concrete is used for decorative elements. The house named after the hollyhock motifs used throughout the project. The design of the furniture and rugs continue these motifs.

The house is open to visitors and you can try Bru Coffeebar nearby for a snack.
