AIT BEN HADDOU
Located in Morocco between Marrakesh and the Sahara desert, Ait Benhaddou is a fortified village that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The site has been fortified since the 11th century, though the current buildings are thought to be much more recent. The village is on a major trade route across the Atlas Mountains. The buildings are grouped together behind a wall with a granary at the top of the hill. The construction is of rammed earth, adobe, bricks and wood. Efforts are on going to preserve the village and most residents live across the river.
Many films have used this village as a location. Visit a local artist or stop at a cafe and enjoy your visit to Ait Benhaddou.
